Being able to create a capsule wardrobe means that you have timeless pieces that will see you through from day to night. And while everyone knows that jeans and a plain white tee are standard, what kind of accessories are needed in your capsule wardrobe? Here are a few ideas for you, if you’re thinking of putting yours together soon.
There may be some pieces of jewellery that you always wear and hardly ever take off. For me at the moment it’s a little dainty ring I got from New Look (see picture). But other than that, what is a good idea to have? I have pierced ears but don’t really wear earrings, so this spring I am going to change things up. For everyday earrings, studs are usually your best option. But a pair of fancier earrings to take your look from the office to the bar is a good idea too. A timeless look could be a pair of handmade pearl earrings, or a more modern look could be a pair of blingy earrings. Then choose a pendant necklace, a statement ring, and a bangle, and you’ll be good to go.
Now, where to start with shoes? There are so many options. It can change from season to season, as you’re not going to need your boots all year round. But every capsule wardrobe needs a pointed court shoe, that will work with skirts for work or jeans for weekend drinks. A pair of flats are a must too, as well as a pair of sandals as we come into spring season (YAY!).
Trainers are a must for the capsule wardrobe too. But the ones you choose will depend on your style. I like a feminine pair of slip ons or a classic pair of white Converse as they can suit pretty much any style. If you’re a gym bunny (like what I am evolving into!) then a proper pair of running shoes is a must too. Nike do some great black and white options at the moment that work with gym kit, as well as black skinny jeans for that urban edge look.
Bags can be quite personal and some people are more ‘bag people’ than others. Having the option of a larger or smaller bag is a good idea, though. So a smaller cross-body bag is good idea for quick trips, and then a larger shoulder bag for work or shopping. If you go out quite a lot, then a clutch could be a good idea too.
Scarves are a must in winter, and bundling up with a long, woollen one and a pom-pom beanie is super cute. But even when the weather is a little warmer, scarves are still a really good idea. Lighter options thrown over a nice blouse can take you from day to night on a summer’s day quite easily.
